Fairtrade fortnight this year will begin 22 Feb till 7 March. A fortnight of fun and frolics to get everyone swapping their unfairly traded Tea / coffee / fruit / sweets or even condoms for a Fairtrade variety. February started with Green and Blacks announcing a complete swap to Fairtrade chocolate, most people probably thought they were Fairtrade already, but this year their whole range will be 100% Fair!
The big push this year is for Fairtrade tea. The tea market is pretty big in England (as you can imagine) but there are no big labels supporting the farmers who produce their stuff so Fair tea hasn’t really had much of an impact as coffee for instance. So Fairtrade are calling on Tetley’s and P.G to go Fairtrade. At the moment they have used the Green wash sign Rainforest Alliance, which doesn’t really give a toss about workers rights. Fairtrade HQ are organizing some knees up strictly FT tea dancing events around the UK to raise awareness.
