Mark (3 Fletcher's) is a member of the Confederation of Co-operative Housing's General Council. ASH nominated him to this at the GM on 6 June 2007 and he was confirmed as a member at the CCH AGM on 8 June. Agendas and minutes of GC meetings are posted on the CCH's website here.

About CCH and the GC

The principal function of CCH is to provide a voice and visible presence for the UK housing co-operative movement. A lot of the discussions at GC seem [from what I've seen so far -- Mark] to be about how to provide policy input at national level, e.g. by providing responses to consultation documents, and how to work together with other parts of the tenant movement such as TMOs. The main event is the annual CCH conference, which is a useful way for co-op members and workers to attend a series of relevant talks and also to get to know people from other co-ops around the country. CCH produces an occasional newsletter, and provides some limited help to member co-ops that get in touch with particular problems or queries. It also has some useful resources on its website, such as the Code of Governance.

Representing ASH (and the Eastern Region)

If anyone has ideas on how ASH would be best represented at these meetings, come and talk to me (Mark) or discuss them on the ashcoop-discuss mailing list. This could be thoughts about agenda items, or things that CCH could do to help its member co-ops, for example. Officially I was elected as one of the representatives from the Eastern Region, so if anyone from other co-ops in the region happens to be reading this, feel free to get in touch.

GC meetings 2007-8

The first meeting after the CCH conference was held on 11 August. The remaining meetings are as below. I have suggested that the meeting in February could be at ASH, if ASH agrees. If any co-op members want to attend I assume they'd be welcome, since the CCH website says the meetings are open to the public. (I don't think you'd get rich selling ringside tickets!)

  1. A weekend planning session on either 26-28 October or 2-4 November
  2. 8 December 2007 - at CDS Co-ops, London
  3. 9th February 2008 - venue to be confirmed (possibly ASH Co-op, Cambridge)
  4. 12 April 2008 - venue to be confirmed

I'll post on the ashcoop-discuss mailing list when agendas appear for these meetings.
