ASH Workshop Space
Andy 2 Argyle has been looking out of his window thinking that the space down the side of his house (between 2 and the fence with railtrack land) and the bit out the front next to the car is under-used.
It's not really big enough for a house, so I wondered what other uses we could make of it. And I'm a man who like's my workshops, so I thought, why not?
Note, this got me thinking about the 'railtrack land' idea. If we manage to get that, then the obviously it'll effect workshop plans. So Andy 2 Arg is focussing on that first, but wacked this stuff up to get thoughts about a workshop space rolling...
To do
- Do you need planning permission for a workshop, single story building? Think of it more as a big shed. Find out?
- Make a rough plan for the 'side of 2 Argyle' space / workshop / bike shed / front of 2 Argyle
- Ask Sean (terminate construction, low impact builder friend) about what would suit the building, get a ball park figure.
- Get bodies together for manual labour / keep costs low
Pros
- We'll be able to build shit
- We'll be able to mend shit
- We can all learn / share some good skills
- We all have access to some useful big tools
- It could be (relatively) cheap to build
- It could be quite quick to build, which is good for morale
- We can use interesting materials, like hemp walls and stuff
Cons
- It could be noisy, and maybe you'd have earlier than the 11 cut off point?
- It's not housing
- You don't get rent, not as standard anyway... Feasably if co-op members used it for cash work, you could take a cut for allowing them use of space?
