The 5th Cooperative principle obliges cooperatives to train and educate members and ASH Coop allocates a portion of its annual budget to this purpose.
The education coordinators may actively seek out training course they think members will be interested in or might be of benefit to the coop in general.
They may also work under instruction from the General Meeting to research training on a particular subject or issue that has been deemed as important to the coop. Historically, examples of these have been : first aid training, meeting facilitation skills, interview skills and mediation training.
Members’ autonomy in their personal development is encouraged and respected and if a member or members should find, or have an idea of, some training they would like to participate in they can research this themselves or with the help of the education coordinator who will then present it to the General Meeting for approval.
