The welfare group notionally concerns itself with the welfare of the membership although this is a very cloudy term and the role of the welfare coordinator has been largely determined by how successive coordinators have interpreted this. For a number of years the primary role of the welfare coordinator has been to handle complaints and disputes between members and the welfare group has been an ad hoc collection of member volunteers to help out with individual cases.

The coop has sought to refine its policy and procedure for handling member complaints over the years.
